Notary
In California, a Notary Public is appointed by the Secretary of State and must pass background checks by the State, Department of Justice and the FBI. Notaries screen document signers for their identity, their willingness to sign without duress, and their awareness of the contents of the document or transaction. Notaries must be impartial in any transaction. Property deeds, wills and powers of attorney are examples of documents that commonly require a Notary.
